John F. Leonard papers, 1862-1921 [manuscript].

Chiefly Civil War letters from Leonard, a federal soldier in the 125th Illinois Regiment, written while he was serving in Tennessee and Georgia, to his family and friends in Vermilion County, Ill., with some letters from them and other family members. Leonard's letters discuss camp life, troop movements, discontent among soldiers, conditions in army hospitals where he was a patient, and personal matters. Also included are war items including copies of his U.S. Army veteran's records.
